French and Modern Foreign Languages
The teaching of Modern Foreign Languages, particularly French, which begins in Year 1 at WSG, allows an opportunity to explore another culture in depth, studying the similarities and differences between our own British values and lifestyle with that of another country.
The teaching in KS2 (supported by the Rising Stars Scheme) helps teach this awareness to the children in appropriate, relevant topics that interest them – such as school, weather and food.
Opportunities for incidental learning of languages surround the children – for example, children learn about other languages and cultures in whole school assemblies and year group based topics.
We value the importance of our children seeing themselves as global citizens and understanding that they have a place in a wide range of communities extending beyond the WSG gates. The value we place on this is at the heart of MFL teaching at WSG.
