English
We strive for our children to have a lifelong love of reading. To be inspired to read and choose to do so. To want to pick up a book and see the value of reading both for pleasure and for research. To be motivated by the world being opened through literature.
The school uses the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme to teach phonics. Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is a complete systematic synthetic phonics programme (SSP) developed for schools by schools. Based on the original Letters and Sounds, but extensively revised to provide a complete teaching programme meeting all the expectations of the National Curriculum and preparing our children to go beyond the expectations of the Phonics Screening Check.
Phonics and Early Reading Policy
We strive for our children to see themselves as writers and to understand the many purposes of writing in a world where technology is prominent. To explore our varied curriculum through cross curricular opportunities to write (both fiction and non-fiction). To have an understanding of the writing process and be
confident to write, review, draft and re-draft. To have a good understanding of the mechanics of writing: to master the basics and then develop
the grammatical understanding needed for the future.
We strive for our children to be confident speakers who are articulate and clear and keen to speak in front of others.
In English, we follow the guidance in the National Curriculum but link reading and writing with other topics.
